The OECD countries which
provided bulk of international funds are the ones affected badly by
the pandemic. Their budgets and public finance are overstretched. All
these mean there will be less budget allocation for international
development assistance /cooperation..
This will affect multilateral and bilateral funding. Many ny of the UN agencies and international non government organizations are largely dependent on the funds from EU and European countries, particularly Germany and Nordic countries. Given the gravity of the pandemic, economic consequence and less tax revenue, these countries are likely to significantly reduce international development assistance. America has already cut their development assistance under Trump Administration.
Secondly, as the economic crisis will lead to more under -employment, and unemployment. Hence there will be less spare money for charity. Hence direct fundraising will be affected
Thirdly as the profit margins of companies will be affected, there is going to be less resources for CSR funds
If the pandemic doesn't go away in the next two months, many of the non governmental organizations will be closed or merged
Hence, unless big and small development organizations have contingency plan there is a looming danger of imminent closure.
