Salutes to Vikram Sarabhai on his 100th birthday. There are few leaders who continue to inspire me.
The first and foremost among them is Vikram Sarabhai. I consider him as one of the greatest visionary entrepreneurial leaders of India. He lived only 52 years(1919 to 1971) And he built some of the best Institutions that still make India and Indians proud. He is the father of Indian space research program. After his death it was called Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre. He was a first rate scientist with a PhD in Physical from Cambridge.

The first and foremost among them is Vikram Sarabhai. I consider him as one of the greatest visionary entrepreneurial leaders of India. He lived only 52 years(1919 to 1971) And he built some of the best Institutions that still make India and Indians proud. He is the father of Indian space research program. After his death it was called Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre. He was a first rate scientist with a PhD in Physical from Cambridge.
He founded the India Physical Research Laboratory, (IPL), one of the
best national science Institutions in India. He began the great idea
of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and founded the first IIM in
Ahemedabad. He created the first market research group Operations
Research Group. And series of companies, including Electronic
corporation of India. He also began the first Textile Research
Association. He was a scientist, management leader, the best
institution builder and entrepreneur who loved creativity and arts too.
He was born in Gujarat on 12 August, 1919 and died in Trivandrum on
30, 1971. He married one of top most dancers Mrinalini , who was from
Kerala.
He bridged Gujarat and Kerala and Vikram Sarabhai Space Center in Trivandrum today is one of the well known space research organizations in the world. Vikram Sarabhai nurtured leaders, leadership and Institutions. He nurtured Abdul Kalam, who became the President of India. He discovered Ravi Mathai who was the first Director of IIM which created world class management leaders. One doesn't have to live hundred years to do great things. One has to imagine hundred years ahead, to think ahead to, to live more than hundred years. Vikram Sarabhai Created Institutions that will continue to make a difference even hundred years after his death.
The three great visionary leaders continue to inspire me are Jawahar Lal Nehru, Vikram Sarabhai and Verghese Kurian. While Vikram Sarabhai from Gujarat made one of his biggest contributions in Kerala. Verghese Kurian from Kerala made his biggest contributions in Gujarath. They were the stellar examples of national leadership. What makes Nehru great is that that he created a liberal political space for so many first rate institutions builders, scholars and woldclass leaders to make India possible. It is Jawahar Lal Nehru together with great non partisan visionary leaders such as Vikram Sarabhai and Verghese Kurian who together made the idea of plural and creative India.
It is that idea of India that is increasingly under threat.
