People's officer and a real civil servant PH Kurian is known for his integrity, imagination and initiatives. He retired today as the Additional Chief Secretary of Kerala. I met him ten days ago , just before I left Kerala ,to wish him all the best.
PH Kurian is one of the best civil servants I have come across. He is committed, honest, and blunt. He acts fast and talk-straight. A very interesting mix of a down to earth person,- and sharp officer with depth of experience andknowledge. His work in Orissa- Kalhandi is well know. He talks Oriya like a native speaker . He also took deputation and worked with UNICEF. In fact he could have been very well in the UN System, though he preferred to work on the ground. He is a doer- and I have seen his talking straight to the former CM without fear or favour. There are many things we share- including the tendency to do straight talk without fear or favour. I consider him as a good friend - and he came and spent time during the National Capacity Development Programme at Bodhigram and he was such a hit. We will miss him in the government. Because, it is people like Kurian sir who made a difference in all governments with deep social commitment, professionalism and integrity. In fact such true civil servants make government work as they are deeply committed to democratic values and people too. Wish him all the best and hope to see him more without the paraphernalia of the government.
