Governmental Awards and recognition are often signifiers of delusions of power ,conferred to the conformists of those in power establishment . Most of these are conferred when someone has already close to retirement or retired , redundant or dead. All these symbolic legitimization /recognition are basically to perpetuate delusions of grandeur and power of the old royalist and feudal variety .
Does conferring Bharat Ratna to a retired soothsayer , player and former President in the Delhi Durbar or deadman of a social worker of sangh or a dead singer make any difference to them or to the country . Because these awards are actually for the sake of those in power (whoever it is ). It is for the sake of perpetuating the delusional benevolence of those in power to pat the back of those massage them. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Gandhi hardly got any award while alive . Did not get Nobel prize too. But Gandhi is more respected and revered almost all over the world even after 70 years of his death . Though the images of Gandhiji are coopted by the newly independent Indian State , Gandhi walked beyond and away from the power logic of the state .
