Herd Mentality

Today a significant number of those who are the die-hard loyalists of a political party are often influenced by ' Herd Mentality". This 'herd' mindset is often influenced by 'identity' - as part of an organisation or real or acquired 'kinship' ties. or friendship ties. Those who are not a part of the 'herd' get first profiled, then targeted, then attacked with words and then deeds- based on politics of fear- that produce intolerance and politics of hate. Such a herd mentality of collective fear often generate politics of violence and then violent politics leading to extreme forms of intolerance to the 'other' and this often gets transformed in to mob violence, lynching as well murdering and terrorising political opponents.

ഇന്ന് പലപ്പോഴും പലരും രാഷ്ട്രീയ പാര്‍ട്ടികളുടെ 'ചാവേര്‍ ' ആകുന്നതും ' എന്തിനെയും എതിനിനെയും, എല്ലാ വൃത്തികേടുകളെയും ന്യായീകരിക്കുന്നതും , തങ്ങളോടു യോജിക്കതവരെ ചാപ്പ കുത്തി തെറിയഭിഷേകം ചെയ്യുന്നതും ഈ ' Herd mentality' കൊണ്ടാണ്. ഇന്ന് പലപ്പോഴും പലരും ഒരു രാഷ്ട്രീയ പാര്‍ട്ടിയില്‍ ചേരുന്നത് വായിച്ചു പഠിച്ചുള്ള പ്രത്യയ ശാസ്ത്ര കാരണങ്ങള്‍ കൊണ്ടൊന്നും അല്ല. പലപ്പോഴും അത് കിന്‍ ഷിപ്‌ കൊണ്ടോ പീയര്‍ സോഷ്യലൈസഷന്‍ കൊണ്ടോ ആണ്. അതയായത് അച്ചന്‍ കൊണ്ഗ്രെസ്സ് ആയിരുന്നു. ഞാനും കൊണ്ഗ്രെസ്സ് . അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ നങ്ങളുടെത് ' ഒരു കമ്മ്യുണിസ്റ്റ്' കുടുംബം ആണ് എന്ന അടയാളപെടുത്തല്‍. അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ അമ്മാവൻ ആര്‍ എസ എസ ആയിരുന്നു അങ്ങനെ ഞാന്‍ എ ബി വിപി ആയി. അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ കോളേജില്‍/സ്കൂളില്‍ ചെന്നപ്പോള്‍ കൂടുകരെല്ലാം ഒരു വിദ്യാര്‍ത്തി സംഘടനയില്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന് ഞാനും ചേര്‍ന്ന്. ഇതില്‍ ആദ്യത്തത് ' kinship ties' ഉം രണ്ടാമതെത് " friendship ties" ഉം ആണ് . പിന്നെ ;identity affiliation". അതായതു ഞങ്ങളുടെ ജാതി -അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ മതം അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ ഭാഷക്കാര്‍ എല്ലാം ഒരു പാര്‍ട്ടിയില്‍ ആണ് ഞങ്ങളും അവരുടെ കൂടെയാണ് . ഇതൊല്ലം ഒരു പരിധി വരെ ' Heard mentality' യിലേക്ക് നയിക്കുന്ന ഘടകങ്ങള്‍ ആണ് .

മിക്കപ്പോഴും വളരെ കുറച്ചു പേരു മാത്രമേ സ്വയം ചിന്തിച്ചു രാഷ്ട്രീയ -പ്രത്യായ ശാസ്ത്ര തിരേഞ്ഞെടുപ്പുകള്‍ നടത്താറൂള്ളൂ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ സ്വതന്ത്രമായി സ്വന്തം രാഷ്ട്രീയ -സാമൂഹിക കാഴ്ചപ്പാടുകൾ രൂപീകരിക്കാറുള്ളൂ . മിക്കവാറൂം ആളുകൾ കോണ്ഫിമിസ്റ്റ് ആണ്. അവൻ വളർന്നു വന്നതോ ശീലിച്ചതോ ആയ സംഘ സ്വത്വത്തിനും ബലത്തിന്( ഇതിൽ പാർട്ടിയും മതവും എല്ലാം പെടും ) അപ്പുറം ചിന്തിക്കാൻ ഉള്ള ശേഷി നഷ്ട്ടപെട്ടവർ ആണ്. കിന്ഷിപ് സോഷ്യലൈസെഷന്‍ കൊണ്ടോ , മറ്റു കാരണങ്ങള്‍ കൊണ്ടൊക്കെ ആയരിക്കും പലപ്പോഴും ഒരു സംഘ ബലത്തിന്‍റെ കൂടെ കൂടുന്നത്. ചിലര്‍ സ്വന്തം പ്രോറ്റെകഷന് വേണ്ടി. ചിലര്‍ direct or indirect incentive നു വേണ്ടി. ചിലര്‍ നേതാവ് ആകുവാന്‍ വേണ്ടി.

എന്ത് തന്നെയാലും അക്രമസക്ത്ത രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിന് ഒരു കാരണം Bertrand Russel പറഞ്ഞ ആ Herd Mentality തന്നെ. അത് സമൂഹത്തിലും സാമൂഹിക മാധ്യമങ്ങളിലും എല്ലാം കാണാന്‍ കഴിയും.
