St Francis Church in Fort Kochi 1516, the first European church in India. Vasco Da Gama was buried here in 1524, though his mortal remains got shifted to Portugal after 14 years by his son.
The church changed hands from colonial power to another; from Portuguese to Dutch to English and in the process the catholic church began by Franciscans is now a CSI church affiliated to the North Kerala Diocese. It is declared as a protected monument in 1923.
