Most of the leadership lessons are about learning from practice. Leadership is also about certain choices of values and principles we apply in our relationship with other human beings in society, institutions and initiatives.

The modes of leadership are influenced by the values and vision you hold and how you make an effort to practice them. Self awareness and awareness about other human beings and self reflection in relation to others are key aspect of practicing leadership.

I have learned and practiced leadership relatively early in life. I have also got experience of leading local, national, international and global teams and organizations. These are some of the lessons, learned from practice of three decades.

One most important qualities of good leadership is the ability to be self reflective and a commitment to learn from each mistake and to realize one's own mistakes and ability to correct them.

We all make mistakes. The challenge is how we learn from such mistakes to move forward with more humility and with more empathy.

One of the biggest litmus test of any leadership is how do we deal with disagreement, adversity and bricks.

Those who manage these two aspects of self reflective resilience begin to build bridges, transform adversaries and make others listen and become real change makers.

Building consensus is a pre requisite for any collective initiative. And building consensus requires a certain sense of empathy , patience and ability to reduce the temptations to be judgmental of all others. It is multiple modes of conversations with convictions that often make change happen.

Almost all human beings are self righteous to a certain extent. But extreme form of self-righteousness make people judgmental and dismissive of others and other point of views.

High amount of individualism, self righteousness and narcissism often killed even the best of initiatives by best of people.
